Within ad set creation, advertisers can choose where in the Spotify user experience their ads are shown.

The options include In-Feed, In-stream or Automatic.

In-feed

Ad placements available within feed content on Spotify’s app, such as on the Home or Browse page or in the ‘Now Playing View’. Video, Display, and Carousel formats are eligible for in-feed placements. Video is eligible for Spotify Player only. Carousel is eligible for Now Playing View only.

In-stream

Ad placements available before, during, or after streaming content on or off Spotify. Audio & Video formats are eligible for in-stream placement.

Automatic

Serves placements that help optimize toward your delivery goal. Audio will only serve in-stream. Display & Carousel will only serve in-feed. Video can serve in-stream or in-feed. The delivery goal selected will influence where video serves.

How to pick placement options

To maximize scale & reach of your campaign, we recommend using Automatic placement, which helps optimize toward your delivery goal. For Audio, this is in-stream only. For Display ad Carousel, this is in-feed only. For Video, this means in-stream & in-feed placements. The delivery goal selected will influence where video serves.

In-stream placements help advertisers own moments and ensure their message is heard. In-stream placements reach fans with non-skippable, sound-on ads that deliver naturally between content.

In-stream placements are valuable for advertisers focused on efficient cost per results and high completion rates.

In-feed placements help advertisers drive scale with in-focus users. These placements enable advertisers to reach listeners wherever they go in the Spotify app, only when they’re actively looking at or interacting with Spotify. In-feed ads display alongside native content to remain top of mind without disrupting the audio flow.

In-feed placements are valuable for advertisers looking for scale & efficient CPMs.

Contextual placement controls

Content type

If the ad set is eligible for in-stream placements (as per prior selections), advertisers can choose to run ads across all available content types on Spotify (Music & Podcast) or choose to run against Music-only. We recommend running in all content-types to maximize opportunity.

Context Targeting - for In-Stream placement only

Contextual placement options help advertisers control where ads appear. Advertisers can include preferences for genre, tone, activities & settings, or podcast episode topics (if running in all content types). Sensitive topic filters are also available.

If these options are selected, we recommend selecting as many as possible to broaden the reach of the ad set.
