This article covers how to install your Spotify Pixel once it’s been created and how to verify that it’s sending events from your website.
Learn more about how to create a pixel
Once you’ve created your Spotify Pixel in Ads Manager, the code needs to be installed on your website. The pixel will not send data to Spotify if it is not installed on your website. You can do this directly on your site, or through third-party integrations, such as Google Tag Manager. Note: While we support installation through some third-parties, we are unable to troubleshoot third-party installations.
Installing the Spotify Pixel with Google Tag Manager
In order to install your pixel, you must first set up your conversion events and copy the pixel and event code to add it to your website.
About the Base Code
The pixel’s base code measures the number of attributed page views for the pages on which it is installed, and is required to start measuring activity on your website. We recommend placing the pixel’s base code on every page of your website, or at minimum 3 webpages, to ensure Spotify is getting enough baseline data to accurately attribute activity to a given Spotify campaign. The more website data we receive, the better able we are to attribute a user’s action on your website to your ads and the more accurate your campaign results will be.
Setting up your conversion events
Once you’ve created your pixel, you can set up your events and get your pixel code from the Events page. Learn more about conversion events
-
Go to the Events page from the left side navigation.
-
You will see your newly created pixel on that page. The page views event will be pre-populated as an event for your new pixel because it is included in the base code. To add more events and get your pixel code, click the gear icon to open the pixel details page. Click on the Get code button to return to your pixel set up form.
-
Select the conversion events you’d like to measure in your Spotify ads. Select the events that align with your primary campaign objective. For example, if you track leads, but are running a campaign to primarily drive purchases, you may not see strong results for attributed leads because your campaign is designed for a different objective. Once you’ve selected your desired conversion events and any optional parameters, click the Next button.
-
On this page, you can use the Copy buttons to directly copy your base pixel code and event code(s). If you are working with a developer, you can copy a link to this page’s URL to send to them and they will be able to access all of the code to install on your website.
Note: Events cannot be deleted via Ads Manager. They can only be removed from the code of your website if you would like to stop sending event activity to Spotify.
Installing your pixel and event code
You can install your pixel manually by yourself or with the help of a developer. If it's available to you, you can use a partner integration to install your pixel.
To install your pixel you will need access to your website’s source code.
The base pixel should be pasted between the header tags of all pages where you’d like to measure page views.
Paste the event code between the header tags for all the pages where the relevant actions should be measured. In cases where the conversion event is a submission, such as a Lead, place the event code on the submission button click or on the confirmation page.
Verify the Pixel is working
Our tools will show you if data is being collected, but we cannot verify if it's collecting the right information. It can take up to 20 minutes after a pixel is installed for its event activity to show up in Spotify Ads Manager. Verify that your Spotify pixel installation is accurate by confirming the following:
- After installing the pixel, navigate to Events, and click into the integration you’d like to review.
-
Check that the event activity graph shows your total website activity. Hover over the graph to compare its specific event activity to your internal data. For example, if your website typically receives 10,000 visits per day, but your graph shows 5,000 per day, then the pixel may not have been installed site-wide. In this case, you should re-verify pixel installation.
-
Note: The event activity graph shows total website activity – not just attributed activity. To see attributed activity, check your campaign results in the campaign table.
